Mclaren is right your Chevy will have 'laminated' glass i.e 2 layers of glass with a polyvynil interlayer. A steady hand and a good oil filled glass cutter is required. I do this for a living and have had a few 'accidents' But as they say 'practise makes perfect!'
Any good windshield shop should be able to do this for you.
Not recommended for the 'first timer' or novice!
Good Luck! Unfortunately most places will not accept responsibility for 'breakage' We make it very clear before we take on a job that things can and do go wrong!
As the old addage says 'measure twice, cut once!'

value is hard to determine, KBB.com is the best way that I know how to assess the value. Are you sure it is a 350? the 409 was a small block 4bolt main engine, not a mid-block like the 327, or the 383. you will need to mic the engine to know the truth. some people in the late 60's and early 70's also liked changing the stickers on the valve covers, and breather cover to make their friends think they put some money in the car for the track.

tell him to go boil his head, you could turn it into a head turning classic with plenty of dough, but it will cost you.
Why the hell did your dad give you it if he wants you to flog it. Daft bugger

The mid-'50's Chevy's, namely '55-'57 will always be desirable as collectible vehicles. Their design has not and will never go out of style. They were built in an era when the designers basically had free reign to be creative and even flamboyant. Plus the model look changed every year to a fresh design so each year is unique, which is pretty amazing when you consider that manufacturers keep model designs basically unchanged for up to 10 years today. The mid-50's cars are as much works of art as they are cars.

I am assuming it is a two door and it is worth it even without the 409 because most people bought the Impala models and as a result few Bel-Air's are around. If it isn't well enough preserved to restore original, you may want to think about a 502 CID crate. Good luck.

Restore it but turn the 307 back into a 283. That means get rid of the 327 crank. That was the worst engine next to the 305 that Chevy ever made. The 283 was tough and got good mileage for a V-8(about 18 mpg) and the 327 was a screamer. Our old 63 Belair did an honest 135 mph with a 327. The 307 is a cam eating dog.
