chevy bel air
Michael V asked:

hi i have a 1964 chevy bel air i just bought it and going to restore the guy just put a 350 engine in the bel air with a Powerglide transmission 2 speed will the transmission work for this kind of engine

  1. Zach P Said,

not for sure. Is the tranny connected already? If it bolts up, it should work lol.

  2. FORD-MAN Said,

It’ll work just fine , but a turbo 350 would be better .

  3. chevyraceman_383 Said,

The transmission will “work” but your launching power will be low due to the high 1st gear of the power glide..

It really needs a 4.10 rear gear or lower to help get it moving.

Myself I would replace it with a th-350 which has a lower 1st gear and will pull harder starting off with less rear end gear.

  4. Garacaius Said,

As long as the tranny bolts up to the engine ok. When this car was made, it had a powerglide ( 2 speed ) transmission in it.

A 2 speed is a powerglide tranny. Drag racers use this tranny all the time, and they are actually worth really good money. A 3 speed turbo 350 is better for daily driving and performance. A overdrive 700R4 is the best bet for driving and fuel economy, and a great upgrade.
